What acts of worship can I do to stay close to Allah during my menstruations?

A menstruating woman is still engaged in worship by obeying Allah's command to abstain from Salah and fasting during Hayd.

However, since missing Salah can affect a woman’s spiritual connection, she is encouraged to increase other acts of worship during this time.

Acts of worship she can perform include:

  • Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and Dua. She may follow morning/evening adhkar, or sit at prayer times making dua and dhikr.
  • Charity and doing Khayr (good deeds), by giving money, belongings, time, or skills to others.
  • Reading and listening to the Quran (without touching the Mushaf directly) and teaching it. This is a freedom specific to hayd; see can you recite Qur'an during Janabah for why the same act is judged differently in that state.
  • Silatur-Rahim (maintaining family ties) and being good to family.
  • Daawah, commanding good and forbidding evil.

These acts help maintain a strong, consistent spiritual connection with Allah during menses.

On Hajj specifically, almost all of the pilgrimage stays open to her in the same way, since tawaf is the one rite that actually waits for purity; see what if your period starts during Hajj for exactly what continues and what waits for purity. The same is true for Umrah performed on its own, where entering ihram itself is not affected either, as what if your period starts during Umrah sets out in full.
